A Victorian sterling silver snuff box, London 1846 by Edward Edwards II

Of rectangular form with rounded corners, the hinged lid with chased foliate edges, the lid with a chased foliate edge engraved with an engraved presentation inscription reading “Presented to Sergt Major Humphries Central London Rangers by Major R. T. Higgins the King’s own Borderers, as a token of respect & esteem 1847”. Otherwise with engine turned decoration. Gilt interior. Fully and part-marked marked.

Length – 9.5 cm / 3.75 inches

Weight – 234 grams / 7.52 ozt

Major Richard Thomas Higgins (1839-91) married on the 4th April 1883 a widow Jane Elizabeth Griffin (b.1848), he published the The Records of The King's Own Borderers or Old Edinburgh Regiment (1873).
